Police officers outside a downtown Toronto precinct on Tuesday after the arrest of rapper Aubery Graham, known professionally as Drake. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.

NEW YORK (AP) — Aubrey "Drake" Graham, one of the most successful rappers of the past two decades, was arrested Friday afternoon in Toronto on allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor, police said.

The 38-year-old Grammy-winning artist, was taken into custody at his Toronto residence by detectives with the Special Victims Unit, according to the Toronto Police Department. Officials said the arrest followed a months-long investigation but declined to provide specific details about the allegations.

Graham faces felony charges that could result in significant prison time if convicted. He is currently being held without bail, pending an arraignment later this week.

“A case of this sensitivity requires careful handling, and we are committed to ensuring it is addressed fully in court,” Police Commissioner Dana Ruiz said in a statement.

The rapper’s label, OVO sounds, said in a statement it was “aware of the arrest and awaiting further information.” A spokesperson declined to comment on whether the label would continue its partnership with Graham.

Legal analysts said the case is likely to draw extensive media coverage and could take years to resolve. “When an entertainer of this stature is accused, every development becomes a global story,” said Anna Feldman, a criminal law professor at Columbia University.

Graham has not publicly commented on the allegations. Court records did not list an attorney for him as of Friday afternoon.

He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, where a judge will decide whether to grant bail.

As of now, police have not detailed what specific actions triggered the manhunt but have confirmed that federal agencies are also involved in the case. Residents are advised to remain alert, especially in areas near academic institutions and tech campuses, where the individual may seek refuge or attempt to blend in.

This is a developing story.
